VIP WELCOME

to Activate Your Alchemy

This is a unique 1-day immersion into a boutique retreat experience. Carefully curated to allow you to reconnect into your heart space at your pace.

The Alchemy Retreat Day has something to offer every woman seeking to learn how to create and implement more peace, ease & grace, balance, and calm into her life.

Are you ready to carve out some time for yourself to remove limiting beliefs, release big feelings, and receive the felt experience of true freedom and calm in your body?

This is your opportunity to do more than simply disconnect from your daily distractions. I have carved out a space to allow you to relish some quality me-time, and to deeply nurture your heart space.

I have named this unique transformation experience ‘Alchemy’.

Definition & Intention

I often get asked what does Alchemy mean?

Alchemy is defined by the Oxford dictionary as “the medieval forerunner of chemistry, concerned with the transmutation of matter, in particular with attempts to convert base metals into gold or find a universal elixir.

Oxford Dictionary recognises the reference used today as a “seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination.

In the busyness of our daily lives, how much energy and effort do you dedicate to your own process of transformation?

Just the word, alchemy itself is beautiful and rolls off the tongue. I find myself transfixed with the use of it everywhere as I embrace a new depth of transition in my life – the embracing of all of my life.

We will work collectively as a group, to connect and embrace your own unique alchemy through a variety of Heart Connection Practices.

I utilise a number of relaxation and healing modalities including Intuitive Heart Meditation, Wellness Coaching, Clinical Resource Therapy, Counselling, Clinical Hypnotherapy (including Psychotherapy), NLP, and CBT to provide participants with a gentle and peaceful practice.

As your Change Facilitator for Alchemy Activation, I recognise everyone will arrive with their own unique collection of experiences, tools and resources. No previous training or experience is required, all you will need is an open mind and open heart.

Working together, I will endeavour to provide you with a variety of opportunities to embrace the felt experience of peace and calm. Connecting with the feeling of peace enables you to consciously break down resistance to change. In turn, this enables you to learn how to restore calm in your life for the future, not just this day’s experience.

The combination of tools empowers participants to accept the invitation to take a quantum leap in their own personal spiritual growth. When you activate the power of your natural-born alchemy, you enable light-charged transformation.

People are like stained glass windows, they sparkle and shine when the sun is out. But when the darkness sets in their beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.

– Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

How to utilise this Alchemy VIP access space resource portal

This portal hopefully enables you to undertake some pre-reading before the all day retreat. Additionally I’m providing electronic files to reduce the amount of printing.

What to bring to Retreat

People often ask me what to bring to a retreat. My first response is always bring an open mind!

* Bring your drink bottle

* Bring your blankie and wear layers of clothes

* Bring your journal/notebook and pen (and note that a Retreat Folder with journal sheets will be provided)

* If we are working at the Trafalgar venue, bring your comfortable camping chair which ideally supports your head and neck

* Bring your willingness to explore and expand your self love!

Please note that there are basic chairs onsite. I don’t know about you, but I don’t fancy working on the floor regardless of the season. I’m a bit of a sooky lala as I get older and I’m planning for comfort.

I’ll be bringing my large camping chair and an old towel (to protect the venue’s floor) so that I can be comfortable. I’ll be bringing a small pillow to support my back and another for my head. I’ll even be packing a blankie or two, and my meditation wrap.

Please know, if you would prefer to sit on a yoga matt or meditation cushion, then go nuts! Bring whatever you need to be comfortable and supported.

Personally, I’m going to snuggle under layers of warm clothes. I’ll be packing my blanket and warm socks so that I can flex my feet when I get grounded. I get very very warm when I shift emotions and energy, and then I get cold before balance is restored within.

So my advice, wear layers that can easily removed or replaced. Wear what is comfortable for you. This is a place of no judgement.

What’s in the retreat goody bag?

Everyone loves diving into a Retreat Goody bag – I know I do.

I’ve been thinking about all the things that will value add and hopefully enhance your Retreat experience to immerse into Self Love more during the event, AND when you go home.

So let’s take a look!

Alchemy Retreat Essence

The Alchemy Retreat essence has been specifically designed to enhance your experience to open and work from your heart.

The specific combination of Australian Bush Flower Essences work to support you to vibrationally clear resistance to a pathway of new ideas and ways of thinking so that you may invoke spiritual discernment.

Ingredients include:

Bauhinia – clears resistance to any new idea or way of thinking

Angelsword – supports spiritual discernment + retrieval of gifts

Black Eyed Susan – supports you to find your internal quiet place

BlueBell – supports you to open your heart to unconditional love

Boronia – helps to manifest change through visualisation

Bush Fuscia – supports you to listen and follow your intuition

Crowea – aligns the subtle energy bodies

Paw Paw – supports you to contact your Higher Self whilst providing psychic protection and healing of the aura.

Mint Bush – clearing confusion + fogginess in spiritual life

Pink Mulla Mulla – supports deep spiritual healing, trusting and opening up.

This essence was created during the Easter rebirthing lunar full eclipse as an energetic conduit to creating a new awakening for celebrating the winter solstice and planting a new energetic seed of loving hope for a full summer bloom.

The mother tincture has received ongoing reiki whilst seated in a bed of rose quartz. You will note that the label contains a subtle embedded light code of portal activation to further enhance your unfolding experience.

Shiva Lingham

According to the Crystal Council, Shiva Lingams are a crypto-crystalline member of the Quartz family. This stone is found in only one of seven sacred Indian rivers. Villagers visit the Narmada River in Onkar Mandhata and polish these river rocks to better define their famed lingam shape. Shiva Lingams can range in size, with pieces being found as tall as 10 feet.

In Hindu culture, the lingam is a representation of the Lord Shiva in Shaivism and is believed to be a representation of their phallus. In Ancient Sanskrit text, the word Shiva means “sign” or “symbol” which translates to “Shivas Sign”.

The Lingam represents the Brahmanda, which means “cosmic egg”, symbolizing the creation of both the divine male and female energies. Oftentimes temples are built with a single Shiva Lingam residing in the center, resting within a Yoni representing the female organ.

Meaning & Energy

Shiva Lingam is an elite stone when it comes to raising aspects of fertility, sexuality, confidence, and balance stabilization.

The symmetrically rounded ends of the Shiva Lingam emit energy stabilization, increased memory, and the expansion of your overall consciousness.

Through a leveling out effect, we are able to look at things more clearly and have a better understanding of what the true meaning of life really is.

Thankfully with the power of a Shiva Lingam, the polaric points can help guide our two most important bodies (physical & emotional).

Shiva Lingams’ balancing effect can also assist in your own sexual relationships. This representation of fertility and sexuality is a great totem to place within a bedroom to activate your sacral chakra.

This area of the body contains our true identity and helps expand the understanding of who we are and how to transmute our energies towards the ones we love.

For the purpose of Alchemy Retreat, I invite you to become curious when using your Shiva Lingham in relation to how you perceive yourself as a woman and all the roles you fulfill.

If you want to lean into this experience, I invite you to become curious and explore how well you love yourself in each of these roles and set an intention to gently explore and observe where balance may be required.

Due to Shiva Lingam coming in just about every size, we highly suggest having a piece with you each day. Even if you do not have any of the above issues, these abundant Indian stones are here for humanity’s purpose.

The chakra realignment that Shiva Lingam emits is capable of altering your emotional body, physical spirit, and mental ideology.

Clear + Claim Your Space

Smudging only takes a little time investment before you start to use a space, and perhaps once you’re done. It’s well worth the effort. If burning sage is not permitted in the space, sprays are exceptionally useful alternatives.

Essences and Essential Oil Sprays are exceptional if you’re feeling stuck (eg working on failing tech) – a couple of sprays and all that heavy dense energy of frustration and negativity just float away.

I have shared below some examples of products that I use both professionally and personally never travel without!

What is a Sacred Circle?

Our world is moving fast these days, and at times it’s so challenging to remain connected to the deep part of ourselves that we hold sacred. It’s even more challenging to align yourself to like minded people and simply deep dive into who you are and navigate your path back to your true essence.

I’ve been involved in spiritual circle work for over twenty years. There’s something magical about harnessing the energy of a group instead of trying to access your internal wisdom all by yourself.

We experience the magic when like minded people gather, open their hearts and uncover their essence to get in touch with their greatness. We connect our frequencies and wisdom, to create a safe space of loving nurture.

Every experience offers us lessons and gifts, of wisdom, confidence, strength and resilience! Allow me to show you how to lower the defensive wall and embrace exploration of your journey back to your calm and comfortable self.

I will be utilising a combination of modalities including intuitive meditation, clinical resource therapy, hypnosis, counselling, and wellness coaching.

I can’t wait to begin.

What should I expect?

What can I expect during the retreat?

You will be greeted at the venue with a warm smile and the offer of a hug.

You will be invited to find a space within the space and set yourself up for success – whether that be a yoga matt or camping chair.

Once everyone has arrived we will undertake a ‘welcome ceremony’ whereby we will –

* introduce ourselves to each other

* create a commitment to each other that retreat is just like clinic, and whilst we are in a group, everything that is spoken at retreat remains private and confidential

Get grounded into the sacred circle space at the commencement of each and every session.

There will be opportunities to undertake practical homework as well as reflective journaling.

You will be fully supported in creating and extending into your own self-devotional practice with hypnotic meditative recordings. I will also be sharing breathe techniques for grounding and claiming your space

* There is a reflective journal to enable you to explore any new information or awareness you gain from each activity of the Retreat

* Each activity starts with an explanation of the intended process + outcome. I will then guide you into practice. Afterwards you will be offered the opportunity to share your awareness from that activty.

Participation is actively encouraged, for often within the circle your words capture what someone else is thinking or feeling. Other people will connect with the tone of your expression and give you empathy and understanding. And know this, that there is likely to always be someone mirroring exactly where you are in terms of challenge or issue.

Debriefing at the completion of an activity provides you with several things. The debrief is a subtle and safe form of expression, that perhaps you may have otherwise experienced.

Talking about what you experienced in the activity also enables you to acknowledge and explore any subliminal beliefs or blockages which contribute to your own understanding of where you’re at.

I shall close each circle gathering with an intention for the week ahead.

Each session includes the meditation component of the session. Therefore your identity remains confidential.

Agreements

To create a safe space, I work with five basic agreements for myself and all participants.

Firstly, it goes without saying that what we do and say in the sacred circle is based on trust and the utmost confidentiality. This means that we all agree to ensure that there is no external conversation about what is shared. In turn, this creates a natural space for people to share intimate details of themselves for the purpose of healing.

Secondly, when you step into the circle, I ask that you do so without expectation. We join for a reason, and often it’s unknown (and this is the gift). So by joining each circle session without expectation, we are trusting in the medicine that the circle offers each of us.

Thirdly, we hold space for each other.

* We do not give feedback unless asked.

* We beam unconditional love into the circle for all to share.

* We create connection (or during COVID times, imagined!) by placing our left hand upwards (to receive light) and our right hand down to send it out from our heart space.

* We grant permission for your love to flow, and this allows you to honour and celebrate what is said, seen, heard, valued and experienced.

Fourthly, I challenge you to be prepared to share your belly (as little or as much as you are comfortable). Allow the vulnerability to arise, and if the discomfort shall arise, we shall sit there right beside you.

As is often the case, as we go around the circle you may experience someone is a mirror for you. This may feel like they too are experiencing what you are, or are pushing your buttons. Remember this is a gift. Spirit is speaking gently and giving you a conscious sign that there is something within you to look at and address.

Finally, the sharing of materials from this course is not permitted and remains my Intellectual Property. I’ve created this portal to you to return over and over again, revitalising the knowledge and skills, building those spiritual muscles. This portal and information shared is therefore built into the price of the Alchemy Retreat and not for individual sale, transfer, share or gift.

RESOURCES

Heart Activation Meditation

I recognise that not everyone finds meditation an easy activity. For some, the mere mention of meditation can be stress inducing and they claim “oh I’ve tried, and I can’t do it”.

My response as a Meditation teacher is this – meditation is an invitation for you to take a journey inward through embodied practice which can reach every area of your life.

It merely requires you begin to follow and trust in your own intuition. This is a calm and inward focused practice of self-love and acceptance which offers you a deeper sense of gratitude and love in your life.

The purpose of meditation is not to quieten your mind and become a buddhist monk, but rather become present and simply observe your thoughts as they come and go.

Intuitive Meditation is a ‘scientific and philosophical based’ method of Meditation to access and connect with your own intuition with trust and courage to follow your heart’s truth (your soul voice / your inner guidance).

Connecting to your heart’s truth allows you to stay present and be guided from our intuition with trust and clarity/certainty. The aim of this deeper connection is to bring your intuition into your day to day life, not just only in your meditation time.

Through this method you quieten the monkey mind with breathing practices to become still and to activate your own intuition, from within your heart truth!

As you follow the breath into your heart space, here you meet your higher self through connecting with your intuition in its highest form.

To support you gaining the most out of the Alchemy Retreat, I’ve recorded a 10 minute Heart Activation Meditative Recording.

Please DO download this file and listen as often as you can – ideally daily. Why every day? Because you are training your every day mind, to slow down and pause. Frankly who doesn’t need more of that?

Audio Disclaimmer – Please do not listen to this recording whilst driving or operating heavy machinery. Only listen when you can fully relax in your own complete comfort.

This recording is not for a sale, sharing or re-purposing without express permission from Karen Humphries trading as blooming from within.

Alchemy Action Reflection Journal Sheet

One of the things I’ve learnt over the years as I’ve undertaken various healing journies and completed study is this – we have a truck load of strategies and tools to cope with what life throws our way.

However the old quote is true – if you don’t use it you lose it.

By this I mean, if you don’t make a conscious awareness of what strategy is useful, for a certain unwanted thought or feeling or behaviour, means you may struggle to ‘know’ what to do when life gets hot in the kitchen.

This reflection journal sheet is designed to prompt you to take an active role in attempting the various self love actions suggested here in the portal. The intention of this reflective journal isn’t to create work, but to create mindfull connection to the positive affirming actions.

In other words, I’m simply creating an invitation for you to connect with how do you feel before and after undertaking the action? And more importantly when you connect with the emotional component of a stressor trigger in your life and perform the suggested action, this invitation allows you to connect with what provides you stress relief?

Download and use the Alchemy Action Reflection Journal sheet or simply use the questions in your journal and enjoy exploring what actions bring you more calm in your life!

Self Sabotage Workbook

We all experience moments of self sabotage, where our old survival program kicks in and drives a subliminal habit. These behaviours are often unwanted and linked with negativity, unresolved fears that cause procrastination and avoidance.

In other words when wanting to love all over self, we need to get comfortable in the discomfort of sabotage.

In my twenty years of experience, I’ve read, studied and learned a myriad of strategies and tools.

One of the most effective tools I want to share with you is the series of questions posed by Byron Katie. They are simple and straight to the root cause of what you’re thinking and the feeling you associate with it.

Byron Katie is an American speaker and author who teaches a method of self-inquiry known as “The Work”. She is the founder of Byron Katie International, an organization that includes The School for the Work and Turnaround House in Ojai, California.

TIME magazine describes her as “a spiritual innovator for the 21st century.” I was blown away after hearing about “the work” and felt the need to share a simplified version with all of you, see below:

All the suffering that goes on inside our minds is not reality, says Byron Katie. It’s just a story we torture ourselves with. She has a simple, completely replicable system for freeing ourselves of the thoughts that make us suffer.

“All war begins on paper,” she explains. You write down your stressful thoughts, and then ask yourself the following four questions:

Question 1: Is it true?

This question can change your life. Be still and ask yourself if the thought you wrote down is true.

Question 2: Can you absolutely know it’s true?

This is another opportunity to open your mind and to go deeper into the unknown, to find the answers that live beneath what we think we know.

Question 3: How do you react—what happens—when you believe that thought?

With this question, you begin to notice internal cause and effect. You can see that when you believe the thought, there is a disturbance that can range from mild discomfort to fear or panic.

What do you feel? How do you treat the person (or the situation) you’ve written about, how do you treat yourself, when you believe that thought? Make a list, and be specific.

Question 4: Who would you be without the thought?

Imagine yourself in the presence of that person (or in that situation), without believing the thought.

How would your life be different if you didn’t have the ability to even think the stressful thought? How would you feel? Which do you prefer—life with or without the thought?

Which feels kinder, more peaceful?

Turn the thought around:

The “turnaround” gives you an opportunity to experience the opposite of what you believe. Once you have found one or more turnarounds to your original statement, you are invited to find at least three specific, genuine examples of how each turnaround is true in your life.

Quotes from Byron Katie:

Life is simple. Everything happens for you, not to you. Everything happens at exactly the right moment, neither too soon nor too late. You don’t have to like it… it’s just easier if you do.

“As long as you think that the cause of your problem is “out there”—as long as you think that anyone or anything is responsible for your suffering—the situation is hopeless. It means that you are forever in the role of victim, that you’re suffering in paradise.”

“A thought is harmless unless we believe it. It’s not our thoughts, but our attachment to our thoughts, that causes suffering. Attaching to a thought means believing that it’s true, without inquiring. A belief is a thought that we’ve been attaching to, often for years.”

“I am a lover of what is, not because I’m a spiritual person, but because it hurts when I argue with reality.”

“How do you react when you think you need people’s love?

Do you become a slave for their approval?

Do you live an inauthentic life because you can’t bear the thought that they might disapprove of you?

Do you try to figure out how they would like you to be, and then try to become that, like a chameleon? In fact, you never really get their love.

Do you turn into someone you aren’t, and then when they say “I love you,” you can’t believe it, because they’re loving a facade. They’re loving someone who doesn’t even exist, the person you’re pretending to be. It’s difficult to seek other people’s love. It’s deadly. In seeking it, you lose what is genuine. This is the prison we create for ourselves as we seek what we already have.”

Self Love Bundle

Everyone needs a little affirming Self-Love!!

I recently created a series of Self-Love Cards for clients to create wonderful ways to for you to uplift your spirits through self care affirmations, actions, journal prompts, and quotations.

Pulling a card for day enables you to gift yourself a direct message from the Universe. A sample of affirmation cards have been provided within your Alchemy Retreat goody bag.

Journaling your response (to the card you selected) can allow you to gain clear insights and deepen your understandings of your current situation.

Reciting an affirmation and quotes can also provide you with a simple inspirational message for your day.

Doing self-love actions activate your heart space.

Saying, singing, chanting, reciting affirmations on a regular basis is a powerful way to keep your thoughts positive and grounded into the present moment. Self-Love Cards are a great way to keep your affirmations (desired positive state) close by. Having the physical card with you as a beneficial reminder to remain connected to the positivity throughout the day.

They have been specifically designed to tuck a card in your wallet, or on the bathroom mirror, or even at your work desk. Frequent viewing enables you to re-read your Self-Love affirmation throughout the day.

The more you affirm the positive attribute, the more you are becoming what you want to achieve – the dream life!

There’s no right or wrong way to use this deck of Self-Love.

Simply pull a card from the deck as needed. You may wish to create a regular self-love practice like first thing each morning as you sip your cup of coffee.

The benefit of repeating your use of these cards, is that you increase your vibration of Self-Love through repetition. You are actively infusing the power of the words and activities.

While you can use Affirmations + Actions at any time, it can be helpful to play with them when you feel most open. For you this may be upon waking, first thing in the morning. I especially love to pull a card after a walk outside and have watched the sun rise.

You might like to take a few deep breaths before you use them, have your journal ready to explore them deeper, light a candle or anything else that makes you feel extra snug and supported. Any thing the further nurtures you into the intentional practice of self-love.

Here are some suggestions and ways that I have enjoyed using the cards:

Shuffle the cards and choose a new Affirmative Self-Love Action each day – affirmation, journal prompt, activity or quotation.

Create a special ritual with your loved ones by choosing one each day together.

Put your daily Affirmation on your mirror, fridge or work-desk.

Take the deck out to dinner with your friends and use it as a powerful conversation starter!

Take a photo of the Affirmation and use it as your phone wallpaper.

Become curious. Be on the lookout for small moments during the day that confirm the Affirmations, Actions and Journal entries. It could be as simple as a hug from a friend, a meal you are grateful for, an inspiring conversation, even a walk in nature.

Make the Self Love Card your theme for your day and consciously look for ways to take action to re-affirm it over and over.

Most importantly, use Affirmation Cards in whatever way feels inspiring for you! Tune in each day as your needs change and evolve.

Here are some ways you may choose to utilise the journal:

Answer the Journal prompts to explore more about how you can love yourself and how you can take action.

Write down the first thing that comes to mind when you pull a card

Pull a card in the morning, journal at lunchtime and listen to the audio as you go to sleep.

Try using the audio like this:

Listen first thing in the morning to set the frequency for your day ahead

Play it to put some pep back in your step throughout the day

Play it at the end of the day to re-affirm and go to sleep connected to that vital part of you called ‘Self Love’!

I wonder how much self love you can invite into your life using all three resources?

Empowerment Quotations

JOY CHOSE YOU

Joy does not arrive with a fanfare on a red carpet strewn with the flowers of a perfect life.

Joy sneaks in, as you pour a cup of coffee,

Joy sneaks in as you watch the sun hit your favourite tree, just right.

And you usher joy away, because you are not ready for it.

Your house is not as it must be, for such a distinguished guest.

But joy cares nothing for your messy home, or your bank-balance, or your waistline, you see.

Joy is supposed to slither through the cracks of your imperfect life, that’s how joy works.

You cannot invite her, you can only be ready when she appears.

And hug her with meaning, because in this very moment, joy chose you.

Rituals for Self Care + Self Love

What is a ritual?

When we think of rituals, you might think of religious practices or shared social rituals – like that of Christmas time, or a marriage ceremony.

A ritual is a combination of a meaningful action with intention to engage specific emotions, for example the giving of a gift. They are symbolic acts, performed mindfully, that enage our emotions. They can be used in our lives to consciously connect with our life purpose.

Mindfulness is key. For example, when you make yourself a warm beveridge in the morning, you may drink and scoll through social media as you get ready for work. This is a habit.

But if you set aside time to make yourself that warm cup of something delicious, and take pleasure in the process of making it, and enjoy being mindful, this is a ritual.

When it comes to rituals, there is a deeper meaning that the surface appearance. For example a tea ritual is an invitation to a moment of calm and tillness, an intention to recentre and reconnect with the self amid the rush of a busy day.

Habits and routines are performed on autopilot – this means you don’t give it conscious thought, you go through the motions of performing the act.

When you create a ritual you’re making a conscious decision about whwre you want to invest your attention.

Remember this – what you pay attention to is what you bring into your life.

Why do rituals work?

Research shows that rituals in the face of loss support us to grieve better. That same research shows that athletes who perform rituals prior to competing improve their performance.

The western medicine based research scratches their head when it comes to the reason why the alchemy of rituals work.

However eastern and energy philosophies, postulate that when a person activates their heart brain, they are activating the energy of their body fields, chakra and higher self.

When you work within the heart, you are activating your quantum field, where your all knowing resides.

This is a simple and potent combination of intention and action.

Joe Dispenza describes the quantum field as “invisible fields of energy and information that exist independently of space and time. You can’t see them. But that doesn’t mean they don’t exist.”

Let’s lean into this concept a little more.

Quantum manifestation posits that our focused positive thoughts and positive intentions have the potential to influence and shape our reality, just as particles in quantum entanglement exhibit correlated behavior regardless of distance.

Let’s translate this to simple terms – you recreate your reality using your heart brain!

Some ritual actions – such as the pouring of salt, burning slips of paper, chanting and even invocations – may seem out there, BUT the practicality of the action is not related to the usefulness of the ritual.

If a ritual supports you to calm anxiety, focus your attention, soothe big emotions, then the ritual has fulfilled it’s purpose and intent.

Embracing rituals, no matter how silly they may seem, support us to boost self-confidence and manifest our intentions.

Rituals + Spirituality

Enacting rituals supports us to detach from the ordinary and routine flow of every day life, and place us into a sacred space. Our hearts are the most sacred for us to create connection between our inner and outer worlds.

Taking care of ourselves – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually – is the key to living the life we dream, and gifting you the very best opportunity to live your best life. This is true for our own health, happiness and fulfilment and for those around us.

Rituals open you up to the possibilities of connecting to the vibrational energy of your dreams.

Mindfulness + Connection: rituals help you to carve out conscious and connected moments of stillness from the rush of everyday life.

Self Nourishing: some call this pampering, but it’s a necessity. Remember the old proverb, you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Health + Wellness: regular ritual practice supports healthy lifestyle choices, and the best way to dial up physical wellbeing. Afterall when you feel energised physically, you are often feeling motivated to do more things that bring you joy.

Seasons + Rites of Passage: there are specific times of year, and times of life, whereby rituals bring people together in your life.

Manifestation: ritual brings together intention and action, helping you to attract what you desire in your life. Rituals create a recipe for you to generate transformative change in your life.

Some of the oldest rituals we know are connected to nature – winter and summer solstice, which focus on nature and the shortest and longest days of light in the year. They date back to a time when we had a stronger relationship with nature, and our human communities revolved around the calendar of harvests.

Below are some suggested rituals for your own personal self-care and boosted self-love.

What is the first thing to do when your buttons are pushed?

Our life is full of experiences. Some are fabulous, some teach us lessons. Some of those lessons just aren’t resolved with a good night’s sleep, and it’s this reaction to the external world that creates our defensive reaction.

Some of those life experiences are hard.

When the lesson hasn’t been fully embraced, we can feel like our buttons have been pushed. What’s happening inside our brain when we experience a triggered reaction is that we don’t quite yet have the resources to work through that situation.

We often repeat the same experience until the lesson is learned. This is often not pleasant and can make life feel hard as we build our resilience muscle.

We are constantly building our emotional intelligence — our capacity to process our emotional response to external life.

If you’re open-minded in relation to change, you can view life as every single experience presents you with a gift to grow and evolve. However, if you’re stuck in your neurological survival reaction, this growth can become stunted. You’re capacity to self-reflect, assess and move forward strategically can become impeded.

When we explore the reactive trigger, there are a whole bunch of things occurring in the brain when it switches into survival mode. As a therapist, explaining our neurobiological response is confusing for most.

Instead, I make reference to the part of our psyche called the inner child — that part of you deep inside that keeps a record of every single experience you’ve ever had, including the feelings you associated with those moments.

This means your inner child carries an emotional wound. It is very much like a garbage can, full of crap thoughts, feelings, and beliefs about yourself and the world. And unless you have emotionally mature and stable parents, your capacity to address all of these emotions generally doesn’t happen until you’re an adult.

By that time, you are consciously aware of when you are triggered because of how it makes you feel. It’s uncomfortable and often leaves you feeling out of control. It’s often the source of your anxiety and panic. It is also something that we avoid until our reactive behaviour feels toxic or gets us into trouble.

When life feels uncomfortable, it’s human nature to want to slam the lid down tight and avoid that discomfort. And yet the more you shove more in, the worse it gets.

It’s like an old septic tank. The more you fill up the vessel, it starts to stink metaphorically. As it gets full, you feel like you want to cry or scream or hit something. You may even want to run from the scenario that drove the trigger.

You can get really worked up. Or rather, your inner child can feel overwhelmed, panicked, anxious, nauseated, and completely out of control. These feelings contribute to the manufacturing of unconscious fears of the unknown, future, and uncertainty.

When those feelings arise, and life feels hard, you should practice the pause.

I cannot wait to hold space for you gorgeous!

Remember as always you really
can choose to change and
bloom from within!
